Asking if it’s “real” is rude. Since lab grown is real. Also it could be a “real” gemstone other than a diamond. But it’s absolutely appropriate to say something like “tell me about your ring, what kind is it?”

Ask about the ring but think about how you would want to be asked. Personally i love talking about my ring because my fiance put alot of thought into it.
